Memorial Day Dink
Got on the water as the sun was coming up...I love the early morning time on the water. Made my way down to Poplar..nada, headed around into the mouth of EBay..nada, headed west...nada, back north and finally picked up a dink. Slow morning for me today. Stopped by Hackett's Point to make a few drifts and saw a nice fish (probably 28-30") get pulled over the side. Looking forward to a trip mid-week to escape the massive fleet of boats that have been on the water this weekend.

Beautiful Morning
Had plans of meeting a neighbor and his brother-in-law at the dock at 5:30. Well, let's just say that must have been a bit too early for them. I waited until 5:45, but it took everything in my powers not to leave at 5:31. They never showed so I left in a hurry. Of course I planned on using my spinning gear for the trip, so I didn't have my long rods. I'm glad to say I finally had no wind and no rain. Went back north to a few spots that I had recently marked good fish and they were still there. Picked at them until 9:00 when I had to get back. Biggest went 24 1/2" and FAT!!! On my way home, I encountered the chumming fleet which were out in full force.

Coast Guard Escort
Decided to take a detour today and managed to get an armed escort to boot. These guys came screaming toward me and were NOT playing around. I forgot about the high level of security with V.P. Biden attending the Navy graduation. To say the least, I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw that bazooka pointed at my Parker. After a few words, I managed to get an escort up the Severn to the fishing grounds. I've been studying the Severn River historical reports. Oyster bars, SAV maps, dissolved oxygen maps, etc. I'm sure it was all pure luck, but I did managed to find some decent fish for about an hour (biggest went 22"). As usual, the wind kicked up as I headed toward the open bay (probably 15+), so I bailed and headed for the barn. Spent the night on the beach with a few beverages, the kids playing in the sand and reflecting on the few hours of productive fishing....it doesn't get better than that!!!

Decent Night
I started to head North, but changed my mind at the last second and headed East. Caught 8 fish in two hours (15-20") along a few drop offs. Beautiful night to be on the H2O. Forgot the camera tonight, but no loss... I didn't catch the fish of a "lifetime"...thank god!!

Decent Early Morning
Decided to put on the rain jacket and head out at the crack of dawn. It didn't take me long (unlike yesterday) to find the fish. Had fish marked along a dropoff for several hours. It wasn't fast and furious, but I caught fish on just about every drift or so. Nothing big (low 20s), but a lot of fun. A "Dark" BTD landed most of the fish.

Tough AM Bite
Went out this morning with D. Post to only, once again, encounter 15+ knots. This wind has got to stop!!! Fished a couple of spots on our way over to EBay without any luck. Really couldn't find any hiding spots to stay out of the wind which made it difficult to get the fly down where we were marking fish. After a few more spots in EBay, we finally found a few fish. They all went from 18"-24". One of these days I'll have a day without white caps in my face. Thanks SC for the intel this morning.

Afternoon Bite
Took me some time to find 'em, but I did. It was slow going at first with only a few dinks to show for covering a good bit of the mid-bay. But as the evening wore on, the tide started to get strong and the bite turned on. Nothing to big (maybe 22-23"), but plenty of them tonight. At one point I had several acres of bait flopping all over the surface...the birds should be just around the corner.

Quickie this Morning
Got out for a few hours before the wind picked up to 20+ which made for some sloppy conditions. Picked up a couple of fish around 15" by working some structure. Didn't have time to head to any "secret spots", so I just stayed close to home so I could stay out of the wind. Looking forward to getting out without 20 knots blowing in my face.

Plenty of Bait
Went out tonight with my friend Alex and managed a few mid 20" fish. It was a tough bite with the May worn hatch underway, but it's always a good day when you get a chance to be on the water. We did find a lot of bait and "big fish" marks but they didn't want to bite. As the wind picked up to 20+ knots, we decided to head home and encountered one of the biggest bait balls I think I've ever seen on the bay. The ball was 30-40 feet in depth, 50 feet wide and maybe a football field long. I"m hoping to get out soon after the May worm hatch is over to find some of those big fish we marked today.

Slow Fishing
After having so much wind lately, I was excited to finally have an opening in my schedule when it wasn't blowing 20 knots. Well, this report with be short and sweet (not really). I caught two fish that both were around 15". I tried and tried, hitting a lot of different spots from the Western & Eastern shores to the EBay. I did mark some nice bait and even some good fish, but no takers today. With this weather, I'm hoping to get out at least one more time this weekend.
